Child Safety At St. Paul's

In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost. Matthew 19:14

The children in our midst are a precious treasure of God. St. Paul's is committed to providing a safe environment where they can grow in faith. St. Paul's is in the process of establishing guidelines and implementing policies.

Children's Ministry Workers/Facilities: All Children's Ministry are trained in appropriate and safe ways to interact with children. Under the St. Paul's UMC Safe Sanctuary Policy, they are also required to complete an application and a participation covenant. In addition, we do background checks (criminal, child abuse, and references) on all workers who serve in a program coordinator role, a mentor role or certain "higher risk" positions.

All adult workers and children wear identification name tags at all times during their participation in Children's programs.

The two-adult rule (at least two unrelated adults are required to be present) is observed in all children's ministry programs. In addition, windows are provided in every classroom.

Education Building Locked: Doors to the Education Building are locked at all times other than Sunday morning. Entry is available via a video/intercom/buzzer system at the McAllister Street entrance.

Child Pickup and Dropoff: Children in 2nd grade and younger must be checked in by a parent or authorized adult.

Children in 3rd grade and older are permitted to leave their Sunday School classroom at the end of class on Sunday mornings to go to the Church Building or meet a parent outside (With a parent's written permission).

Allergies: If your child has specific allergy concerns, please contact the Coordinator of Children's Ministries. We will do everything we can to make our programs as safe for your child as possible. We make stringent efforts to avoid peanut products in Children's Ministries so we can make arrangements for your child.

Kids with special Needs: If your child needs special accommodations to participate in a children's program, please contact the Coordinator of Children's Ministries so we can make arrangements for your child.

CPR/ First Aid: Paid staff members in Children's Ministries will be trained in CPR and First Aid. Lists of participating volunteers with medical or emergency training will be posted at all children's programs.
